Medical Marijuana History in Nevada
Medical marijuana law took effect in the year 2001, allowing patients with debilitating illnesses to use medicinal marijuana with a physician’s recommendation. It also allows patients to grow twelve plants and possess up to two-and-a-half ounces of cannabis in a single fourteen-day period. A caregiver and dispensaries who are designated by the patient registered under the Department of Health and Humans Services are protected under the law. Establishment of a statewide medical marijuana program took effect in 2014, which allows up to sixty-six dispensaries and two hundred production facilities regulated by the DHHS. As early as 2015, the first licensed commercial establishments will be open. A dispensary or a home cultivation must not be near any patient’s residence.
